WOOL CARPET

This project was created in Houdini. I had the idea to make a carpet with realistic detail. It was a tough one, mainly because I had little experience with Houdini, especially when it came to the grooming tools.

This is my skin geometry and VDB setup.

These are hairs, but I use them as guides for my hair later on. I do all the main clumping and big shape structure with these. For example, all my attribute masks, like the length mask, affect these guides.

These curves are the base guides, and they lead the direction of the other hair guides.

Quick showcase of how my clump setup was in the hair stage. I broke up the clumps with frizz, bend, and waves to get a more natural look. I also added extra length before clumping to ensure the volume was still there afterwards

I exported the wool carpet using USD. I also packed all my primitive attributes so I could use them later for shading.

This is my scene setup for my render in Cycles. I used some gobo lights to get a more realistic look.
